Kristina Wearing The London Dress
So tell us, how did you meet the love of your life?
I quickly met Andrew while he was working a shift at a local event in my community. Andrew and I both work for Law Enforcement and have worked together on several different occasions. We both clicked right away and I knew that from the beginning he was my person.
When did you know they were the one?
I knew Andrew was the one right from the beginning. He has such a dry sense of humour, he makes me laugh, he is my biggest supporter, and my best friend. He is always so patient with me, always takes care of me when I am sick, and loves me unconditionally. He has loved and cared for our daughter who is not biologically his, with every ounce of his heart.
Tell us the story of the proposal!
I got Andrew a Yurt for his 30th birthday! I planned to do some hikes, golf and relax for the weekend. When we got to the Yurt I was on the dock looking at the beautiful scene and taking pictures. I turned around and there Andrew was on his knee asking me to marry him.
How long was your engagement? What went into deciding your wedding's date and location?
We were engaged for almost a year. We married on August 29, 2021. I wanted a fall wedding with because I love the cooler weather and the beautiful colours that come with it. We got married on my community, at the Kah-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre. It is known for its traditional lands and beautiful scenery. I am First Nations and getting married on my reserve's beautiful property meant so much to me.
How would you describe your personal style? What was most important to you when you were planning your bridal look?
I am very laid back, and obsessed with vintage, boho vibes. I love lace and knew that I wanted a long sleeve, high neck dress. When planning my bridal look I knew I would be expecting so I also wanted something that wouldn’t be snug that could accommodate a growing belly comfortably.
How did you find Wear Your Love?
A nurse that I work with often, told me about wearyourlove, because that is where she bought her wedding dress from. I looked up the site and knew that this is exactly the style that I wanted. I often looked online at other stores, and at boutiques in our area for dresses, but always came back to the London on WearYourLove.
When did you know you had found your perfect dress?
It was everything that I wanted, and the reviews from Instagram and my friend were nothing but positive!
Which dress did you choose, and did you request any custom aspects?
I chose the London because 1) it was long sleeve 2) it was lace 3) it had the high neck option 4) I loved the option for the closed back 5) I read the material was comfortable and stretchy, but not cheap 6) I loved the option for the beautiful longer train
What went through your mind when the Wear Your Love box arrived at your doorstep and you tried on your dress for the first time?
OMG I was so excited yet scared that my measurements were off! I tried it on with my best friend and knew this was it. The dress fit PERFECTLY and was a dream to wear. The fabric was comfortable, stretchy, yet kept its fit (I've noticed some fabrics get loose after a few hours of wearing).
Did your wedding have a theme or style?
Boho/vintage yet traditional for I am a status Indian.
How involved was your partner in the wedding planning? Did your families help? Did you hire a coordinator, planner, or event stylist?
Our wedding was very small, intimate and simple. We did not use a planner, and just my husband and I planned the wedding. We had a guest list of only about 40 people.
Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of your venue, and why did you choose it for your special day?
I chose to get married on my community's First Nations Property. We have a beautiful historical site called Ka-nah-chi-wah-nung Historical Centre - which translates to “place of the long rapids”. This beautiful area was home to many villages, campsites and various burial sites of the First Nations people. I chose it because of the gorgeous scenery and history that comes with it.
What was your favorite moment of the day?
When they announced “Please stand and give a round of applause to Mr and Mrs Grover” eeeeek I am MARRIED
