Andreas & Hendrika Russell
We met on hinge (dating app). When he first saw my profile he thought I was too basic and did not swipe right. I saw his and was apprehensive too, but I swiped right and then he thought he may give it a chance!
I knew pretty soon that I loved this man, and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. We started dating at the end of May, and I told him that I wanted to marry him by July.
We had been talking about marriage for a long time, but we wanted to respect my brother and his fiancé who were getting married in January. We did not want to outshine them, so we would wait until after they were married to tell the world that we were going to get married. We love playing games together and betting silly things on the games that we play. One day he really wanted me to shave my legs, so we bet on it. If he won, I would shave my legs. If I won, he would have to propose to me by the end of January (little did I know that he had been planning it on my birthday at the end of January anyways). As you may be able to guess, he lost and I was very happy. 2x he fake proposed to me to psyche me out. Once when we were in his room and the other time when we were on our way to a spa day. But then on my birthday on January 28th, he picked me up from work and took me to the coffee shop where we had our first date. Then he took me to one of my favorite restaurants. The whole time I was guessing it might happen today, but I was also thinking that it may be too obvious and expected to do it on this day, as I knew he wanted it to be a surprise. But I did notice that he was a little sweaty. He then took me to the escape room where we had our 2nd date, and by the time we got into the escape room I had completely forgotten about the idea of the proposal, I was so set on getting out in time. The last clue in the escape room opened this bookcase in the wall that leads into a small room. The first thing I saw was pictures of us and I was so confused. In this split second, I remember looking back at him and it was rare that I would see him smile this big. I turned back and I saw candles and a box with a ring. He stepped towards it and grabbed the ring and got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes and then hugged him for a very long time before I realized I should probably let him put the wedding ring on my finger.
I had found a dream dress years ago, but it was much too expensive. So I was on the hunt for a similar one that was more affordable. I found the Wear Your Love website soon after.
Once I found the website, I fell in love with the Jade dress right away, I just wanted the back to be a little lower, so I shot over a message. They said they could do it and I was sold!
I was so excited when I got the box with the wedding dress! I waited until my mom was there to open it with her, and it was a very special moment. I did not expect the dress to be so soft and comfortable, it's literally the most comfortable dress I own!
We had a small ceremony in the woods due to COVID-19.
We chose to get married at a local park because of the social distancing rules that were in place because of COVID-19.
We played Evangeline by Josh Garrels.
Even though our wedding was not what we hoped it would be, it was spontaneous, beautiful, and intimate. We were planning on getting married in May, but once COVID hit we had to mourn that our wedding was not going to be like we planned it. But then there was nothing holding us back from getting married! We are still planning on celebrating our marriage once the government allows us to have large gatherings again.
All we had was a photographer @dani_buckle. She did such a wonderful job and we are so happy with how the photos turned out. I will recommend her to any bride getting married in Vancouver!
Don't let the unexpected take away your joy.

Explain to us how you found Wear Your Love?
I was looking for a relaxed, beautiful wedding dress that was ethically made. I spent SO long searching online and then one day Wear Your Love popped up on my Instagram! I instantly fell in love with all of the dresses. As we were getting married in the hot Australian summer, I wanted to find a sleeveless dress that I could love just as much as a long-sleeved wedding dress. Wear Your Love dresses were all perfect!
How did you meet the love of your life?
We went to college together! There was one night where our college put on a stargazing event. We both went and met through mutual friends. After that night, we began talking more and more frequently, studying together, having meals together, we established a really solid friendship before we started dating. We dated for a little over a year before we got engaged. Our dating relationship was really hectic, we finished out college, went to Europe for three months after graduation, he moved to Kauai while I stayed in California for about three months after our trip to Europe. I finally made the move to Kauai at the end of 2018 and he proposed a month later.
How did you come across Wear Your Love?
Pinterest! Years before Dylan and I were even engaged. I had pinned the Ellora dress and it had stolen my heart from the beginning. After getting engaged I spent months trying on gowns, enduring the uncomfortable moments of trying on dresses that everyone else wanted me to try on. I just couldn’t shake the Ellora from my mind, and I knew I had to have it.
