Blake & Jay

How did you meet the love of your life?

We met at a friend's 25th birthday party. He had never met the birthday girl and technically crashed the party when he tagged along with his housemate! I had heard of Blake through our mutual friend's HiJosh videos and was curious to meet him! His housemate, aka HiJosh, introduced us and we spent the rest of the night chatting away. We ended up going to the beach together the next day! We became good friends but it took us a few months to realize it was going to be anything more.

When did you know that this person had stolen your heart?

It happened so gradually! I do recall a moment when we were driving together and he was just singing along to a CD and having fun, but I remember looking at him and thinking "wow, I think I love this guy."

Tell us about the proposal?

He managed to surprise me! We went to watch the sunrise at one of our favorite beach spots. As the sun started to come up, he played me a song that he wrote and then told me to close my eyes and when I opened them he was on one knee!

Explain to us how you found Wear Your Love?

I was looking for a relaxed, beautiful wedding dress that was ethically made. I spent SO long searching online and then one day Wear Your Love popped up on my Instagram! I instantly fell in love with all of the dresses. As we were getting married in the hot Australian summer, I wanted to find a sleeveless dress that I could love just as much as a long-sleeved wedding dress. Wear Your Love dresses were all perfect!

When did you know you had found your perfect dress?

When I couldn't stop looking at it... I had sent it to my sisters and found myself coming back to the Angelina dress again and again. It was my older sister who ended up saying "Jay, you obviously love this dress. We think it's perfect, you just need to get it!" I was nervous about buying a wedding dress online and she gave me the confidence that I needed to take that next step!

What went through your mind when the Wear Your Love box arrived at your doorstep, and you pulled out your dress for the first time?

I was SO excited. I had it delivered to my parents' place. It arrived earlier than I expected and I remember running into the lounge room where Blake was watching cricket, hugging the box to myself. He knew what it was from the look on my face! No one else was home, but I didn't want to wait. I ran upstairs and tried it on alone in my room. As soon as I felt the fabric I knew it was going to be beautiful! The lace was so soft and delicate and stunning. I couldn't believe how perfectly the dress fit all of my measurements. I called my parents gushing about how wonderful it was! We ended up taking my dress to visit my Nanna the next day and I tried it on again with my parents and Nanna. It was an amazing and emotional moment. No one cried though, we were all too excited!

What was your wedding theme or style?

We had a relaxed, boho-beach style wedding. Blake and I didn't wear shoes (best decision ever, I was so comfortable all day and night) and we had a cocktail-style reception. People loved being able to roam around sit wherever they liked, moving from the beautiful hall inside to enjoy the breeze outside on the deck!

Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of the wedding venue you chose and why did you choose them for your special day?

Blake's mum Michelle found our venue online and it ended up being the only place we visited! We fell in love with it straight away. We chose Bayview Yacht and Racing Association or BYRA, in the northern beaches of Sydney. We wanted to have our ceremony and reception in one place so that our guests didn't have to travel too much and could enjoy themselves! The deck looks out over a beautiful view on the water and the space and windows inside are just as stunning. It was the perfect spot to reflect us as a couple!

What was on your wedding soundtrack playlist, aisle, reception, and first dance?

We walked down the aisle to the song that Blake had made when he proposed! Blake's band, Telafonica, who is basically our 'almost-family' played our music live during the ceremony. We walked back out to a beautiful acoustic version of Walking On Sunshine! Our first dance song was Fools Rush In, also played live by some other dear friends. Another close friend and talented DJ, Kurt Jirgenson, played music during our reception! It was so fun to dance the night away. We were so lucky to have so many talented friends. They all did an incredible job!

Tell us who was involved in making your special day perfect?

We had incredible people involved in our day!! We couldn't recommend them more!

We've had so many compliments on how delicious the food was! Website: www.foodestate.com.au Instagram: @foodestate FLORIST: I did all my own flowers! I've done a few weddings before and knew what to expect. It's been a goal of mine to do the flowers for my wedding. However, I had beautiful people helping me! My older sister helped me make the bouquets the afternoon and night before our wedding (it was so fun!) and I had three incredible ladies (Ellie, Cass, and Lucy) set up the flowers for our reception.

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for anyone planning a wedding?

Try to keep enjoying the present moments instead of just wanting time to move faster... also, be patient with yourselves and your families! We had a DIY wedding and actually loved being part of all the details. It's not for everyone, but it was perfect for us!

Tell us your favorite moment from your wedding?

Besides the ceremony and marrying my best friend, I really loved sneaking away from our reception to have some sunset photos with just the two of us (and our amazing photographers). It was so nice to take some time out from the night to reflect together. The sunset was also beautiful to watch!

How would you rate your overall experience with Wear Your Love?
