So tell us, how did you meet the love of your life?

Alex and I met through my best friend, Ashley. I had just moved back to my hometown after a few years away, and he was from another province but had been living here for a little over a year. She suggested to both of us we meet and have a chat and the rest is history!

When did you know they were the one?

I knew Alex was the one for me quite early on. We moved in together quite quickly, and really complemented each other’s personalities so well. He is the sensible, hardworking one, and I am the one always ready for a good time! He helps me to make smart decisions, while I help him remember to take time for fun. But mostly, we just always have the best time together no matter where we are or what we’re doing!

Tell us the story of the proposal!

I was off early one Saturday evening and came home to Alex surprising me with sushi, champagne, chocolate fondue, and charcuterie (all of my favorite things). We sat at our table, drank champagne and ate the snacks, chatting for a while until he took my hand and brought me out to our living room and had a song playing we always used to sing to when we would hear it play. Naturally, we started singing and dancing, and next thing I knew he got down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I couldn’t believe it! Of course I said yes and cried all of the tears.

How long was your engagement? What went into deciding your wedding's date and location?

Our engagement was 3 years long due to covid, as our original date had to be cancelled. We decided this May to get married in September, as the fall is my favorite time of year. We found a beautiful venue where we could have the ceremony and reception all in one location, and it was absolutely perfect. We chose the date solely based on the availability of our favorite photographer, and after telling my mom about the date we’d chosen, she asked me if I knew the significance of it. She then told me it was my late grandparents anniversary, and would have been their 80th wedding anniversary on our wedding day. I had no idea, but it made the date even more special and meaningful. It really was all meant to be.

How would you describe your personal style?  What was most important to you when you were planning your bridal look?

My personal style could best be described as glam yet comfortable. I love getting dressed up and feeling like a princess, but also want to be able to dance the night away without wanting to change! Something very important to me when planing my bridal look was also finding a dress that was unique yet timeless. I wanted to always be able to look back on our photos and LOVE my dress.

How did you find Wear Your Love?

My best friend had ordered her beautiful wedding dress from Wear Your Love, and it gave me the idea to look on the site when it came time for me to search for mine! I had gone to many different bridal boutiques and tried on so many different dresses, but nothing was quite hitting the mark when it came to what I was looking for. I knew it had to be the perfect dress for my big day, and I wasn’t going to settle until I found exactly what my heart was looking for.

When did you know you had found your perfect dress?

I knew I had found my dress when I couldn’t stop looking at it. I kept going back to your site and looking at the same dress, every photo, over and over again. I loved it so much and just knew it was MY dress.

Which dress did you choose, and did you request any custom aspects?

I chose the Phoebe dress, with the Court Train and unlined sleeves, with the lining color in “natural”. I also ordered the Nova veil in floor length to go with it!

What went through your mind when the Wear Your Love box arrived at your doorstep and you tried on your dress for the first time?

So much excitement when the box containing my dress and veil arrived at my parents house! I was so nervous trying on my dress for the first time, but it was absolutely perfect. It was SO light and comfortable and I couldn’t believe how great it felt on. Nothing like the other heavy dresses I had tried on in other bridal shops, it was like wearing a cloud. So soft and stretchy, it hugged my body in all the right places and made me feel like an actual princess.

Did your wedding have a theme or style?

I think wedding theme could best be described as boho glam. I wanted everything to look natural yet elegant and classy, a neutral color palate with greenery.

How involved was your partner in the wedding planning? Did your families help? Did you hire a coordinator, planner, or event stylist?

Alex was completely involved in the wedding planning! He did so much. He and his friends put up the entire tent we had our dinner in, strung up lights, picked up tables, chairs, and so many other supplies needed. Our families and friends also helped tremendously, and honestly we couldn’t have done it without them. It was a real group effort to make the day what it was. We had no coordinator, planner, or event stylists, just amazing friends and family who made it all come together so perfectly and beautifully. Lucky for me my best friend Sara has the most amazing eye for decor, and created such a magical atmosphere with her style vision and beautiful decorating skills, it felt like being in a fairytale!

Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of your venue, and why did you choose it for your special day?

Our wedding venue was Clifden Manor in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. We chose the manor for its unique look and fairytale feel. It’s as if you’re in a Disney movie scene, so classy and beautiful, it was perfect for our day!

Tell us about your wedding playlist! What song did you walk down the aisle to? Did you have a first dance song that was meaningful to you?

I walked down the isle to “I was made for loving you” by Tori Kelly featuring Ed Sheeran. Our first dance wasn’t until much later on in the evening, because we didn’t have an organized traditional “first dance”, but we danced to the song he had proposed to, which was “Still falling for you” by Ellie Goulding.

What was your favorite moment of the day?

It’s hard to pinpoint one single moment of the day as a favorite, because I loved everything about the day! I just remember waking up in the morning and thinking, this is it, the day is finally here and it’s going to be the perfect day. And it really was.

Who was involved in your special day? We would love to shout out your photographer, favorite vendors, and anyone else who made your day magical.

Our amazing photographer @sharliefaye absolutely made our day so memorable and special, capturing the most beautiful moments and we are forever thankful. I’m 1000% happy we chose to book our day based on her availability!!

Do you have any advice or helpful tips for others planning a wedding?

My advice would be to have a small wedding!! I absolutely loved having a small number of guests, we had 36, and it was the best.

What has been the best part so far about being married?

Getting to call my best friend my husband!

Tanya is wearing The Phoebe with natural lining and a 16 inch court train paired with The Nova veil.
