Dylan & Kait

How did you meet the love of your life?

We met our 11th-grade year in High School in Laguna Beach, CA. We were best friends through the final years of high school, we went to college together and dated through all those years. We returned to Laguna Beach where we met in November 2016, where Dylan proposed! In December 2017, we were married.

When did you know that this person had stolen your heart?

Dylan and I had a solid friendship that was based upon Christ and His values. The closer we grew to Christ, we noticed the closer we drew together and truly loved & respected each other. We also went to pre-pre marital counseling for fun and learned how well we clicked with each other and could continue doing that forever. Ha!

Tell us about the proposal?

Dylan and I met at a secret beach in Laguna Beach, CA in 2012. In November 2016, Dylan (knowing I am THE hardest person to surprise) decided to keep it casual and sweet. He knew anything too extravagant would reveal a proposal in the air. So, we went on our regular visit to our secret beach that we loved and I, surprisingly, suspected nothing...until we were walking down the beach and I noticed Dylan’s hand shaking in mine. “Are you cold?? What’s wrong??” I asked. And Dylan began to tell me how much he loved me And wanted to spend the rest of his life with me (and I immediately sniffed out what was about to happen, but stayed calm and allowed Dylan to think I had no idea what was going on haha!). He finally led me to a ledge on the beach where a tidal pool behind us was filled with crystal clear water and was reflecting the orangey sunset colors in the water, and asked me to be his wife.

How did you come across Wear Your Love?

Pinterest! Years before Dylan and I were even engaged. I had pinned the Ellora dress and it had stolen my heart from the beginning. After getting engaged I spent months trying on gowns, enduring the uncomfortable moments of trying on dresses that everyone else wanted me to try on. I just couldn’t shake the Ellora from my mind, and I knew I had to have it.

When did you know you had found your perfect dress?

I have always loved the “romantic” style. I’ve never been one who wanted to “flaunt what my momma gave me”, and the months I spent looking at the Ellora online made my heartache for it because it had that perfect “Romeo and Juliet” look to it. It fit curves but also exuded “romance” in its soft lace. When it arrived and I finally got to try it on, I fell in love.

What went through your mind when the Wear Your Love box arrived at your doorstep, and you pulled out your dress for the first time?

I remember my heart was racing! I’ve always been an online shopper for clothes, so I wasn’t nervous that it was going to be terrible. I was more so excited that I literally had one of the only pieces of clothing that were made especially to fit me. When I pulled the Ellora dress out of the box I immediately fell in love with it and put it on and fell even more in love with how soft it was and how it fell perfectly on my body. I was amazed at how well it fit me physically and fit my personality.

What was your wedding theme or style?

I would say “Boho-Chic”.

Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of the wedding venue you chose and why did you choose them for your special day?

We got married in my parent's farm-style backyard. It was the home I grew up in, which made it so special. My horse (who lives in my parent's backyard) also got to witness my wedding, which was also pretty cool.

What was on your wedding soundtrack playlist, aisle, reception, and first dance?

Our Pre-ceremony and ceremony was all piano versions of our favorite Disney songs! I walked down the aisle to the piano version of “Beauty & the Beast” It was beautiful. Our first dance song was “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Haley Reinhart. And our reception consisted of 90s hip-pop and r&b music and today’s top hits!

Tell us your favorite moment from your wedding?

Dylan: On the day of our wedding, a few hours before the ceremony began, Kait and I did the first look. Untraditional as it was, I feel like this was one moment I will never forget. It was in a botanical garden in Palm Springs and I remember waiting for Kait to arrive as I thought about becoming her husband. I remembered Jesus and how before he went to the cross to save his Bride (the Church), He was found in a garden praying. I thought about Ephesians 5:25-33 and how a husband is as Christ. We didn’t plan on praying, but I told Abbey our amazing photographer and friend to let Kait know that when she got to the garden, I was going to pray for us, for her and our marriage. Time seemed like it was molasses as I stood waiting for her, but then I heard her footsteps. She rubbed my back, then turned so that we were standing back to back and I prayed. It was one of those moments. A staple. A foundation. A promise that His will be done in and through our marriage. Of course, after we prayed I turned around and saw my beautiful bride for the first time. She was so happy. So beautiful. What a day. What a moment. Turns out first looks are blessed!

Tell us who was involved in making your wedding day wonderful?

Photos by Abbey Williamson, who captured our entire day and have us photos we’ll cherish forever.

Hair & makeup were done by a close friend and family (@kristablare) Krista Blare and Amanda Gutierrez (@amanda.c.gutierrez). I (Kait) had completely DIY’ed and planned the entire wedding! I went to the Orange County wholesale flowers and bought 150 white roses for $100. I sent Dylan & our brothers on a midnight run to chop eucalyptus branches off of trees in our neighborhood ($0 & a few strong men with a truck). And I spent the whole day before our wedding hand making our bouquets, flower crowns, boutonnières, and 12 floral table settings! Dylan hand-built our dance floor, and together, we strung lights EVERYWHERE in my parent’s backyard! Kait hand-painted and hand-lettered all the wedding signs, table seating charts, etc. Nicole Hickey, a family friend, helped with day-of coordinating and was so helpful. @allaboutyouevents We had DJ Paul from “House of El” who DJ’ed our wedding and did a phenomenal job. @houseofelentertainment Bradley Cypert (Dylan’s brother) recorded special moments from our wedding with his trendy handheld video camera! (@bradleycypert) Shout out to Kait’s parents, who let us use their beautiful backyard for our ceremony and reception! @gpop72 and @trishdicecca73

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for anyone planning a wedding?

Remember to tend to your relationship on the wedding planning journey. A wedding is fabulous indeed, but it’s one day and marriage should most definitely last a lifetime. It’s easy to get forgetful of your significant other along the way, but remember them, care for them, encourage them, and bring each other along the journey. Also, don’t let anyone guilt you into doing anything you don’t want for YOUR special wedding day (:

How would you rate your overall experience with Wear Your Love?
