Hannah Wearing The Zoey Scoop Back Dress

Congratulations, Hannah & Dean! We're so very happy for you both. Photography by Jessica Miriam.

So tell us, how did you meet the love of your life?

Ten years ago Dean walked into my life, specifically, a freshman dorm room. He shocked me with his outgoing personality and unwavering commitment to every joke he told, whether it was funny or not. We did some growing up on our own, then two years later, we began growing up together.

What is your favorite part about them that lights up your life?

A lot of people, myself included, find comfort in routine and stick to it. Whether it’s skipping through a playlist to hear my same favorite songs, binge watching the same show every night before bed, or my glass of wine and his bowl of cereal at the end of a long day. He is a consistent source of familiarity, support, and love. However, he also pushes me out of my comfort zone in ways I could have never imagined and that I am so grateful for!

Was there a specific moment when you knew they were the one?

Dean and I have been through so many different phases of our lives together and have so many more to go. Over the past 8 years, at my very best and my worst, he has always been there and he always holds my hand (or taps out a drum beat on my leg). All of those moments, big and little, reaffirmed that he was my person.

Tell us the story of the proposal!

Dean and I love music. Whether we are spending a Saturday night at a concert or watching NPR tiny desks at home, we listen and dance to music any chance we get. We went with a group of our friends to an acoustic show of one of our favorite bands. I thought something may have been up because he went out of his way to go through a different security line (since he had to remove everything from his pockets). He knew I wanted them to play a specific song, one that had meant a lot to us over the years. Although the song wasn't played, at the end of the show he asked me if I still wanted to dance to it at our wedding one day, then got down on one knee.

How would you describe your personal style? What was most important to you when choosing your wedding dress?

My personal style is very casual and comfortable. When choosing my wedding dress, I knew I wanted something comfortable that I could dance in, while also elegant and timeless.

How did you first find Wear Your Love? What initially drew you to us?

I first found Wear Your Love while endlessly scrolling through Pinterest for wedding inspo! I remember seeing the dress, pinning it, and always going back to it as I continued my search.

Which dress did you choose, and how did you know it was the one? Did you request any customizations?

I chose the Zoey Scoop-Back dress. I knew it was the one because I kept comparing every other dress I saw to that one. I loved everything about it- from the intricate lace details on the sleeves, to the open back, and the look of the layered tulle bottom.

We know buying a wedding dress online can be scary, what made you take the leap of faith and become a Wear Your Love bride?

I took the leap of faith and ordered from Wear Your Love after reading all of the reviews that spoke about the comfort, quality, and individualization of the process. Seeing and reading the experiences of actual brides after their weddings helped me feel confident in ordering the dress I always wanted from the beginning!

For brides who might be nervous about buying their dress online, what would you say to them?

I would recommend looking at the photos, reviews, and website information (About Us & About Your Dress). Shopping with Wear Your Love is an online experience like no other and takes *most of the nerves out of it.

What went through your mind when the Wear Your Love box arrived at your doorstep and you tried on your dress for the first time?

Getting my dress was like the worst game of hide and seek I've ever played! In a crazy turn of events, my Wear Your Love box was routed to a local UPS location without a store front. I pulled around the building and asked an employee where I could pick it up, to which they attempted to track it and said it was lost. With tears in my eyes I told them it was my wedding dress and the entire site team immediately kicked it into full gear and tracked it down. That weekend I went to visit my mom, so I truly tested my self-control and waited to open it with her. When I pulled it out of the box I was amazed at the quality of all of the materials used. I put it on and it fit like a glove in the best way! I immediately did a dance test, which it passed with flying colors.

Tell us about your wedding! Was it important to you to have a large wedding, a smaller ceremony, or intimate elopement? Did your wedding have a theme or style?

Dean and I got engaged in December 2019. Due to the pandemic, we postponed making any plans because it was important for us to have our friends and family together and to be able to celebrate safely. Since we had been together for 8 years, it had been some time coming for us and our families. Throughout the planning process, we always described our vision as one big dance party. It ended up being just that (and of course, so much more!).

How did your wedding reflect your unique relationship?

Dean and I are very different from one another in many ways, which was reflected in our wedding. We leaned into some traditions, while also making our own. Our vows were a combination humor and sentimentality. We cut a cake, but served cinnamon rolls for dessert. The bouquet toss included allll single people, regardless of gender identity. We (including our guests) selected each and every one of the songs that were played from beginning to end. All in all, I feel that it reflected who we are together, as well as our appreciation for our friends and family who have supported us along the way.

What was most meaningful to you during your ceremony? How did you feel sharing your vows with each other?

Dean and I spent a few Sunday mornings having coffee across from one another while secretly typing out our vows. We would periodically look at one another when we finally got a line just right. Throughout this process, the anticipation of sharing our vows with the other built, so that part of the ceremony was very special. It really felt like the rest of the room stood still.

What was your favorite part about wearing your dress on your wedding day? How did your dress make you feel?

The dress made me feel so comfortable, while also beautiful! It fit perfectly, the fabric moved with me, and, most importantly, I could dance in it all night. As a child, my grandmother used to purchase poofy dresses from garage sales that I would play dress up with. I always loved the ones that looked pretty when I spun in circles. My favorite part about wearing my dress on my wedding day was when our photographer told me to spin and I realized how beautiful the dress looked when I did.

Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of your venue, and why did you choose it for your special day?

The Mitten Building. We chose this venue because of it's gorgeous architecture, comprehensive layout (locations for ceremony, reception, and basement bar), and all that their package included.

Tell us about the music! Was there live music, a DJ, or simply the sounds of the ocean or birds? Is there a song that you included in your wedding that means a lot to your relationship?

We had a DJ for our day, however, we (including our guests) hand picked each song from start to finish! Given our love for music, there are so many songs that mean a lot to us. A few that we chose: I walked down the aisle to "Grow as We Go" by Ben Platt, once we were announced to be married, we left the ceremony to "Share Your Address" by Ben Platt, and our first dance was to "Too Much" by Jacob Banks.

What was your favorite moment of the day?

It's so difficult to choose one favorite moment. Reading our vows to each other is definitely at the top of that list. Another special moment was the first look with my bridesmaids. I remember seeing their faces when they opened the door and thinking to myself, how did I get so incredibly lucky?

Who was involved in your special day? We would love to shout out your photographer, favorite vendors, and anyone else who made your day magical.

Do you have any advice or helpful tips for others planning a wedding?

Make it your own! Also, you can truly only plan so much. I kept telling myself the few days leading up and day of that what was meant to come together and happen would happen. It helped me let go of focusing on tiny details and just enjoy the weekend with my favorite people.

What has been the best part so far about being married?

Although we have been together for 8 years, there is something different and so special about being married. While it's a hard feeling to describe, the little moments where we correct ourselves to say, "husband" or "wife", or he jokingly holds up his ring finger to remind me it's official, are all so endearing and I hope to hold onto that feeling as the years go by.

Looking ahead, what does the future hold that you can’t wait to experience as a married couple?

We are looking forward to continuing to grow together as individuals and as a couple. And of course, more dancing!
