Courtney Wearing The Zoey Scoop Back Dress

So tell us, how did you meet the love of your life?

Eric and I met on Tinder of all places! We met at a local pub for drinks after chatting back and forth for a couple weeks.

When did you know they were the one?

Very soon into dating I knew Eric was the one. It just felt different this time. We had so much in common and loved hanging out with each other every chance we could. I knew he was the one when I didn’t get sick of hanging out with him and looked forward to seeing him so much. We lived in different cities so it made our time together extra special!

Tell us the story of the proposal!

It was super low key, but so special at the same time. It was a Tuesday night, we were in our pajamas and I was busy making Christmas cards to send out to our friends and family. We had gone out for dinner that evening, and the night was winding down. Eric started to get all nervous, and got down on one knee and asked “Do you want to get married”! Of course I said, yes!!

How long was your engagement? What went into deciding your wedding's date and location?

We were engaged for 14 months before we got married. I knew I didn’t want a prolonged engagement so I started calling around to vendors very quickly after the engagement. We had everything planned within a couple months and had our wedding booked for the following December! We picked a winter wedding because I wanted something a little bit different, and I knew I always wanted a long sleeved dress. My parents got married in December so it kind of always seemed special to me. We picked 4 or 5 venues to check out one day and the venue we picked was the last one we saw that day. It was the only venue that was located in Eric’s home town of Alliston, ON, Canada, and it just felt so right. It was beautiful and everything we hoped for.

How would you describe your personal style?  What was most important to you when you were planning your bridal look?

My personal style is very casual but I do enjoy getting dressed up from time to time! And what better time than your wedding day to look and feel your best! I usually just wear jeans, a sweater and minimal makeup in my day-to-day life, so I knew I wanted to make a statement on my wedding day, but also not go overboard and look like a completely different person. I wanted to look and feel pretty!

How did you find Wear Your Love?

I was searching for long sleeved, lace dresses on Pinterest, and came across the Zoey scoop back dress. I clicked on it and it directed me to your website. The rest is history.

When did you know you had found your perfect dress?

When I could not stop looking at it and coming back to it. My friends and family thought I was absolutely insane for considering buying a wedding dress online without trying it on first. I knew I didn’t want to go to dress stores because I had it set in my mind that this dress was the dress for me!

Which dress did you choose, and did you request any custom aspects?

I chose the Zoey Scoop Back dress. I didn’t request anything custom.

What went through your mind when the Wear Your Love box arrived at your doorstep and you tried on your dress for the first time?

I remember my neighbour was outside on her front porch when I heard the delivery person drop the box off. I ran outside to get it and yelled out, “this is my wedding dress!! Ahhh” we laughed, and I went back inside, took it upstairs and when I opened the box I was so, so nervous! The dress was so gorgeous and looked and felt so good and such great quality. I was alone so it felt kind of weird trying it on without my mom or girlfriends with me, but I couldn’t wait. I put it on and called my mom and best friend right away. I fell in love with it instantly.

Did your wedding have a theme or style?

We didn’t have a theme really. It was Christmas time, so there was a beautiful Christmas tree on the main level of the venue. We picked colours appropriate for the season. My bridesmaids wore dark green and the flowers/centerpieces had ivory/burgundy/ and greenery. We wanted the vibe to be quite formal for our special day, so Eric and his groomsmen along with our fathers wore black tuxedos.

How involved was your partner in the wedding planning? Did your families help? Did you hire a coordinator, planner, or event stylist?

Eric kind of let me take the lead on planning because he knew how much I enjoyed it. I always heard of brides saying how stressful planning a wedding is and how they couldn’t wait for it to be all over. I was the complete opposite. I loved planning every single detail and found it so enjoyable. Eric’s dad and his friend at the last minute made the arbour that we were married under, and also moved it behind our head table for our back drop. We had both our families help set up our venue the day before. As far as wedding planning our families let us do our thing. I of course bounced ideas off my mom all the time but ultimately we planned everything on our own. We hired a wedding planner for the day of coordination which I highly recommend!

Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of your venue, and why did you choose it for your special day?

We chose the Gibson Center in Alliston, ON. It was special to us because Alliston is Eric’s hometown and the place were we first lived together. The venue is a gorgeous old building restored but still has its rustic charm. It was perfect!

Tell us about your wedding playlist! What song did you walk down the aisle to? Did you have a first dance song that was meaningful to you?

Ever since I was a little girl and watched Father of the Bride, I always envisioned myself walking down the aisle to Pachelbel- Canon in D (string version). And my bridesmaids walked down to our band playing Elvis’s, Can’t Help Falling in Love. Our first dance was You & Me by Penny and the Quarters.

What was your favorite moment of the day?

Honestly, every moment was my favourite. But if I had to choose one, it would be when we were sitting at the head table after our introduction and first dance. We sat down and looked at each other and took it all in. All our favourite people together in one room. It was magic.
