Tell us how you met the love of your life!
Kevin and I met as students at Chico State. We had known each other since our first year there, but didn’t start dating until our senior year (3 months before graduation!) We’ve been together ever since, even through two years of long distance while I was in graduate school in Colorado and he went to graduate school at Stanford.
When did you know that this person had stolen your heart?
We had gone on a two week road trip just a few weeks before I moved to Colorado. After being in a car together for that long, camping, hiking, setting up tents while hangry, we had seen the best and worst of each other and still wanted to be together. We knew we wanted to continue to adventure together, through the good and the bad.
Tell us about the proposal!
We live in the same town as Kevin’s family but my parents are almost four hours away. Kevin knew that I wanted our proposal to be private but that I wanted to be able to celebrate with both of our families afterwards. He proposed first thing in the morning, so when I woke up, there he was on one knee with the ring we picked out together. He had arranged for my parents and my friend (who would be my Matron of Honor) to come up that afternoon and we got to have an engagement party with our immediate family.
Can you tell us how you found Wear Your Love?
I wanted to purchase a wedding dress that aligned with my personal values. I wanted it to be gentle on the environment and ethically made. I originally was looking at purchasing a second hand dress, but I’m tall and it was difficult to find one that would fit. I came across Wear Your Love in an article somewhere about ethically made wedding dresses. I loved that their studio is in Northern California (which is where I live) and that their dresses are so beautiful, unique, and made with intention.
When did you know you had found your perfect dress?
I knew I’d love the Odette dress when I purchased it, but when it arrived and I put it on, I immediately knew I made the perfect choice. It was light and felt so comfortable on my body. The beauty of it is so delicate and subtle. I loved that there were no zippers, ties, or buttons so I could get it on and off by myself.
What is the name of the dress you purchased?
Did your wedding have a theme or style?
We love National Parks so our tables were named after National Parks instead of having numbers. We used postcards from each park in our centerpieces. We kept things simple and didn’t have a formal theme but invoked nature throughout our wedding.
Let's show your wedding venue some love! What is the name of the wedding venue you chose and why did you choose them for your special day?
We got married at Vizcaya in Sacramento. It was actually the first and only wedding venue we saw. We LOVED the venue, the option to move inside if the weather went bad, and the staff. When you book with Vizcaya, you have a day of coordinator who works at the venue. You meet with them three times before the wedding. Our coordinator, Ali, was absolutely wonderful to work with. She took away so much stress in the planning process and on the day of. The food is also through Vizcaya and it was delicious. Another big reason we chose the Vizcaya was because of its location in Midtown Sacramento. It was easy for our guests to walk or take a ride share to the venue. Oh, and the have a Bed and Breakfast we got to stay at on our wedding night!
What was on your wedding soundtrack playlist, aisle, reception and first dance?
Our wedding party processional was And I Love Her by Passenger. We walked in with our parents to Simply the Best by Noah Reid. Our recessional was Brand New Man by Brooks & Dunn. Our wedding party was introduced into the reception to Sucker by the Jonas Brothers and we entered to Paper Rings by Taylor Swift. Our first dance was to Lady May by Tyler Childers. The father daughter dance was to When You Need Me by Bruce Springsteen and the mother son dance was to Humble and Kind by Lori McKenna.
Tell us your favorite moment from your wedding!
My favorite moment was probably our last song. It was Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks and our friends and family all surrounded us singing loudly. It was a great way to close out a beautiful day. I also loved that our DJ excused our guests for the buffet line using Newlywed Trivia. We sent him a few trivia questions and answers about us as a couple and the table that answered correctly got to get up to get food. That was so fun and our guests really got into it.

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for anyone planning a wedding?
Follow your values. It’s sooo easy to get caught up in buying all the things for your wedding and spending all the money and lose sight of what you really wanted your day to be. There’s no right or wrong way to get married, so do it the way you want. Keep it traditional or do away with every tradition, whatever makes sense to you and your partner. Oh, and get a coordinator. We probably wouldn’t have booked one if she wasn’t included with the venue but honestly, she was a key part in making sure we enjoyed our wedding.
